The General Meeting of the Assembly 2018

2018-07-06 - 11:19

On June 28, 2018, the General Meeting of the Assembly of the Society of Certified Accountants and Auditors of Kosovo (SCAAK) was held in Vlora, Albania.

At the opening of this meeting, the President of the SCAAK Council, Nazmi Pllana, emphasized that "The development of the profession requires continuous work. In 2018 we expect new challenges at local and global level. We are ready to respond to the needs of the professional environment and the development needs of the country with specialization programs. The year 2018 I believe we can say that it has begun with respect to the accounting and auditing profession. A new Law on Accounting, Financial Reporting and Auditing has been adopted, which has strengthened the auditor's role by adding a new service: the compliance service that will be an additional function for them but also represents a wider diversification of audit services. This law also empowers for the first time the role of a certified accountant, giving the responsibility of signing the financial statements, and consequently adding value to the profession as a title. I am proud that I have been one of the most vocal promoters of this part of the Law regarding Certified Accountants. By strengthening the role of a certified accountant, the responsibilities of the profession will be added to the quality of the preparation of the financial statements, which has so far been the sole responsibility of the auditors".

The meeting continued with the presentation of Mrs. Ardiana Bunjaku, Executive Director of SCAAK, on the report of the activities of the Society during 2017, as well as the report of the audited financial statements for 2017.

The President of the SCAAK Council, Nazmi Pllana presented the Society's work plan for 2019 and the draft budget for its realization. As the highest governing body of the Association, the Assembly composed of active members of SCAAK voted and approved by majority vote the activity report and the report of the audited financial statements for 2017, and the work plan and budget for 2019.

This year, elections were also held for the members of the Society Council and the Nomination Committee for the period 2018-2020, where following the vote of the Assembly were selected the following candidates:

At the end of the meeting, Nazmi Pllana handed over the duty of the President of the Association Council to Ms. Afërdita Çarkaxhiu. On this occasion, Mrs. Çarkaxhiu said that "It is a great privilege to accept today the duty of the President of the Council of the Association, but also a great responsibility to be the head of the Council of an Association that has achieved so much. Although SCAAK has now become a self-sustaining organization and an indisputable reputation thanks to the hard work of all of us, there is certainly still much to be done, especially in an environment such as Kosovo where political and economic factors are constantly changing.

I and the members of the new Council will be committed to assisting the Association in the development of the Strategy 2020-2024 and its implementation to protect the interests of the members and to continue the development of the accounting and auditing profession in Kosovo in the continuation of fulfillment of the requirements of membership of the International Federation of Accountants, and in continuing to provide high quality services to all students and its members.

I thank you for your participation and contribution to the General Meeting of the Assembly 2018”.
